The first trailer for Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is finally here, and this time Alice looks to be heading back to the series’ source in Raccoon City. The roughly two-minute trailer shows series mainstay Milla Jovovich kicking ass in patented Resident Evil style, while a somewhat butchered cut of Guns n’ Roses Paradise City plays against the action. Some faces familiar to franchise fans also rear their heads, including The Red Queen AI from the first film and Shawn Roberts’ Albert Wesker. There’s even a neat throwback to the infamous “laser-hallway” scene of the first film, which was a clear highlight when it came out. While it’s overall a very evocative trailer that should get fans excited for Alice’s last outing, it probably won’t convert any series naysayers with it’s over-the-top action and choppy editing.
The sequel to the 2012 blockbuster Resident Evil: Retribution, The Final Chapter has made headlines in the last year for a series of unfortunate accident that claimed the life of one stuntman, and caused another stuntwoman to require amputation for an injury sustained during a motorcycle accident.
While none of the Resident Evil films have managed to fare all that well with critics, they’ve consistently managed to make impressive box office numbers, totalling more than $900 million worldwide. Here’s hoping that The Final Chapter will manage to be at least somewhat more entertaining than the few previous outings.
Starring Milla Jovovich, Ruby Rose, and Shawn Roberts, and directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter hits theaters January 27, 2017. Be sure to stay tuned to Ground Punch for all your Resident Evil needs.
