This week on the PunchCast, it’s time for the DOOM power hour. Despite a stormy development through hell(!) and back, DOOM has arrived in pristine form. The original had such a big impact on the gaming industry that, for years after its release, the name of the genre wasn’t “first-person shooters”—it was “Doom clones.” Now in a market flooded with military shooters and RPG whatsits (why, a bit like Homefront: The Revolution you might say!) DOOM returns to school us all in the simple joy of masses of demons being blown to sh*t by a tough guy with big-ass guns.
